Head Debate Coach Gabriel de Tuya is a Miami native and Alumni of Christopher Columbus High School's class of 2011. Gabriel achieved his undergraduate degree in Philosophy at Florida International University in 2017 where he graduated on the board of the Philosophy Honors Society. In 2019, Gabriel completed his Masters    degree     in

Communication Studies at the University of Miami, under the tutelage and guidance of renown scholars Michael Betty, Tyler Harrison, and David Steinberg. This year being his first teaching and coaching at Columbus, Gabriel is excited at the opportunity to continue the outstanding tradition of growth set by his talented predecessors. An avid musician and competitor, Gabriel enjoys playing guitar and basketball in his time away from debate and teaching.

Assistant debate coach Daniel Ciocca was born and raised outside of Boston Massachusetts. He earned his BS in Finance from Bentley University and his MBA from Florida Atlantic University.  He has been teaching economics at Columbus since 2002 and coaching debate since 2018.  Coach Ciocca serves in a leadership capacity at the annual AP macroeconomics reading and is an adjunct macroeconomics

instructor for Johns Hopkins University Online.  When he is not teaching and coaching debate, he enjoys traveling, basketball, golf, and watching his Boston sports teams win championships  (much to the chagrin of his South Floridian colleagues.)  Dan and wife Stephanie have a daughter, Amanda, who is an accomplished debater herself.
